When the land fails


Sinkholes, craters, pits ... Every year the earth goes from under our feet more often. Pit unexpectedly appear on the roads, in fields, in the courtyards of houses and even in the houses themselves. We offer you a selection of photos, which houses, cars and people literally fall through the ground.

Gas crater in the Karakum Desert, which is called the Gate of Hell. This strange cave is lit for more than 40 years. It was discovered in 1971 by Soviet geologists, when the land on the site of their development suddenly collapsed, leaving a hole 70 meters in diameter. Since the crater is filled with potentially toxic natural gas, it was decided to set fire to it. Scientists believed that it will burn for a few days, but the fire has not yet subsided.
